Satisfactory Solutions Sorted Site Shenanigans

Not what I had in mind for a post but then I am sure you understand how it goes when you start playing around with your websites, luckily and I mean very luckily, my site shenanigans are sorted with satisfactory solutions, at least for now.

Now, if you've read the title and thought 'Nah, not today my friend', then it won't matter what I write here, as you'll be somewhere else, well, I'm afraid you'll be missing out on some top tips.

I say 'top tips', you may already be aware of these and in which case, you're still not going to know until you finish reading, sorry, I can't do anything about that if you think about it. I could have added them all into the title but then it would have read as follows.

"Site shenanigans sorted satisfactorily by using plugins and settings, also found an excellent site for WordPress beginners and Yellow Pencil is my newest BFF"

(I'm hoping that BFF stands for 'best friend forever' and is not an acronym for something more sinister or risque)

Anyway, quite the mouthful, though I'm sure it would be a candidate for page one, having said that, I'm no longer sure after reading Rami's post, which you can read part one, of his two part thriller, by clicking below.

Google SEO Optimization Series You Fed Codswallop Kosher Or Slop Anyone For Organic

Before I get into it, can I just say that writing with Grammarly over your shoulder is like having to stand next to the teacher while they marked your work, it's a tad nerve racking. Most of the time it's fairly submissive but occasionally in really gets in your face.

Still, I've had two 98's in recent articles and that's with it not letting me see the advanced part, unless I stump up for the PRO membership, so it's not all bad.

Let me get back on track. Most of today, up until now, has been spent working on the two latest sites. I'll spare you the details and just get to the juicy parts.

First off, I had put a 'Coming Soon' post on the one site, actually I just edited the sample page and played around with the fonts and colours. Today I decided that I was going to keep the page and just add it to the 'blog roll', the issue was that it was a 'page' as opposed to a 'post'.

I could have just copied, deleted, pasted and republished through 'Site Content' but I remembered that previously when I had accidentally published a page instead of a post, I had used a plugin to remedy the situation.

Luckily, it wasn't hard to find. So, if you find your self in this predicament then just search for the 'Post Type Switcher' plugin. The one I used was created by John James Jacoby, he of the cool name. Imagine if he had become a judge. Judge John James Jacoby, initials JJJJ, trรฉs slick.

It goes without saying that should make sure that it is compatible with your theme and if the amount of plugins worries you, then just deactivate or even delete it once you've used it.

My second 'agent provocateur' was the fact that my posts were showing up on the homepage in their entirety. Can you imagine, that would be enough to put the most ardent reader off, let alone a casual user.

My first inclination was to go into 'settings' and have a rummage around to see if there was anything that looked vaguely relevant and there was, under the 'Reading' tab. Below is what I found.

Perfect, I changed the original 'Full Text' to 'Summary' and went to have a look at my handiwork, totally ignoring the line of text under the two options.

'Ignore at your peril', I should have read the footnote, as my smugness was rapidly replaced with deep, unmitigated sadness. Not for long though, I pulled myself together and went in search of answers and many answers I did find.

It shows my inexperience with all things WordPress but apparently there is an option on the text editing toolbar of the WordPress editor. If you're unsure where I mean, it's where you go to edit your posts after you have published them (Or where you write them if you don't use SiteContent). It's the high-lighted one in the image below.

I believe it is called the 'More Tag'. If you click on it a line appears and you can drag it to wherever you want and anything above the line is all that will appear under your post titles, wherever you have them displayed.

If that isn't enough, allow me to share where I found the information.

I kid you not, it is a treasure trove of useful tips, tricks, tutorials and whatever else you might need when navigating through the sometimes mysterious world of WordPress.

That's your lot for this afternoon my lovelies, may your weekend be full of rapture and revelry.

It was fit for purpose, though I was tempted to use 'debacle'. Thanks for dropping in Isaiah, greatly appreciated.

Well now Joseph, you are most welcome, thank you for popping in.

Sorry Joe, it's just what I had to do and I wanted to make sure I passed everything on. It was a bit of a session.
