What Do Bloggers Do?
I was having a chat with someone and it got me thinking about what we do. This was just a quick list off the top of my head so I know I'm forgetting things
When a blogger thanks you for reading, liking, commenting, sharing or following, they really do mean it and here's why....
What do pro bloggers do?
Website:
research and decide on website hosting and building platforms...sign up for and pay for hosting and platform...learn how to design sites...learn how to design, edit and publish web pages (thank goodness for themes and templates!)...research laws relating to their particular site...make sure site complies with international laws regarding privacy, copyright and disclosures (and anything related to the specific topic of the site)...learn the odd bit of coding (and some new vocabulary to rant with) for when their website theme, plugins, host, building platform, links, pictures or that one annoying line of text doesn't want to cooperate with each other for whatever crazy reason it is today...researching, deciding and setting up with an analytics service...analyzing your site analytics...come up with plan b when something goes sideways or pay someone to help
If site is monetized by affiliate programs:
research products...research and apply to affiliate programs...make sure everything complies with everything else so you don't lose your affiliateship...make sure again that you are complying with international privacy, copyright and disclosure laws (and anything else that might relate to the site's topic)...research and apply for advertising programs...set up advertising programs...come up with plan b when something goes sideways or pay someone to help
Web pages:
research topics...write topic...edit writing...upload writing...edit writing again...research images and products...source and place images and products...tweak...seo optimize the page...learn the odd bit of coding (and some new vocabulary to rant with) for when their website theme, plugins, host, building platform, links, pictures or that one annoying line of text doesn't want to cooperate with each other for whatever crazy reason it is today...come up with plan b when something goes sideways or pay someone to help
Marketing:
researching and deciding which marketing channels will work for their site...learning how to use each marketing channel to get the most out of it...setting up social media accounts...daily posting to social media accounts...engaging with commentors and followers on social media accounts and webpage...networking with others in the site's niche...researching, deciding, signing up and setting up which email marketing service they decide to work with...adding an email subscription option to site and make sure it complies with international law...research and write emails and newsletters...sending emails and newsletters after doing any tweaking to the email subscriber list...analyzing any results of emails and newsletters...responding to any replies to emails and newsletters...research to learn newer and better marketing skills based on each channel...come up with plan b when something goes sideways or pay someone to help
Blogging in general:
read read and read some more about niche, marketing, site building, writing, any products the site promotes and how to survive life as a blogger, entrepreneur, business person, business in general and what methods work to keep them functional...follow and learn from other bloggers and marketers in the site's niche...network with other bloggers to maintain their sanity and get noticed...figure out how to do all of that and still take care of your off-line life...try to squeeze in some sleep today...come up with plan b when something goes sideways or pay someone to help...then be thankful they're not working for someone else and super thankful (if not nearly bouncing like an excited 3 year old) when someone actually READS their blog post.
....and then there's filing taxes. Most just give up and pay someone to help with that....after they track down the piles of receipts they put in a “safe place”
*********************************
Why do bloggers put themselves through this? Everyone has their own reasons but the vast majority do this because they love doing it and want to help make someone's life a little better.
So, for those who have taken a moment out of their lives to read, comment, like, share or follow my writing, I offer a heart-felt thank you. For the other bloggers out there, you. are. awesome!
To everyone at Wealthy Affiliate, a HUMUNGOUS pile of gratitude for making all of it easier, guiding and helping us and giving us such a supportive and welcoming home.
