So what are some other plugins that may be useful? Here are a few more that may optimize your website, especially if you are going to sell things through it.
- WooCommerce
Do you want to sell stuff through your site and not just have affiliate links to Amazon, eBay, Best Buys, etc? Then WooCommerce is the plugin. Note the developers blurb about it:
"WooCommerce is a free eCommerce plugin that allows you to sell anything, beautifully. Built to integrate seamlessly with WordPress, WooCommerce is the world’s favorite eCommerce solution that gives both store owners and developers complete control.
With endless flexibility and access to hundreds of free and premium WordPress extensions, WooCommerce now powers 30% of all online stores -- more than any other platform."
As some of you may know, my wife has a counselling website where she offers online counselling to deal with anxiety and depression. WooCommerce is the plugin on her site so that she can market and take payment for on-line sessions. With 1 million active installs, this is the one for you if eCommerce is the direction you are taking your website. It is what I will use with my next site that will be offering English teaching lessons online.
- Akismet
Akismet is a popular spam blocker when you receive comments on blog posts and review pages. It works very well and shows up the websites that are regularly spamming you so that you can block them forever. This was my first spam blocker although now I use WP SpamShield. I and many others changed spam blockers when Akismet was no longer free. We all got told of this by our very helpful WA founder, Kyle. Many of us moved elsewhere.
- Jetpack
"Jetpack simplifies managing WordPress sites by giving you visitor stats, security services, speeding up images, and helping you get more traffic."
I haven't used Jetpack at all but it is popular although some reviewers haven't got a lot of positive things to say about it.
- Analytics PlugIns
Of course, this could be a whole training on its own since there are a plethora of analytic plugins helping you with Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc. Some of the social media plugins and even some optimizing plugins have analytics built in. so it may be that instead of an extra plugin, use one that incorporates what you need. This, of course, is whether you want to spend an inordinate amount of time analysing all the details of Google analytics or just give it a cursory glance every now and then.
Conclusion
So there you have it, friends! A little piece of training about the WordPress plugins that we grow to love and hate over our online careers. I know you will all have some opinions. I am sure you will agree and disagree about some of the points made here. Excellent! Debate away till your heart is content. That way we can help each other with an important part of our website building. Leave your thoughts in the box below or just click that lovely green button called "Like".
