How Pages Work

Adding a new page in Wordpress is as easy as following a few steps. I will show you these steps in just a minute but first I want to explain the difference between a PAGE and a POST in your blog.

Creating a page in wordpress allows you to deliver content to your visitors in a way that a traditional website would. Pages are linked to from your menu, people can browse to your pages directly from their browsers, and they give you the most control over how your content looks. The great part about the WA Blog system is that you can add a new page to your website in just a few minutes using the administration tools available.

How Posts Work

Posts are different from pages in the way that they are delivered to your visitors. Posts are delivered based on the date in which you post them. This gives you the opportunity to quickly add more content keeping the newest post in the forefront for your visitors to read. This is great for delivering timely information and for building a following of people who like what you have to say!

The WA blog system gives you the best of both worlds by utilizing Pages to build the core structure of your website, and using Posts to deliver timely information.

Your blog displays Pages in the top and side menu's like this:

and this...

You'll notice however that there is ONE page within both menu's that says BLOG. When clicked this is where your blog lives and where your visitors can see all of your blog posts.

Adding a New Page

Adding a new page in Wordpress is very easy and it can be done from right within your Administration area.

1 - In your left hand side menu, click the "Pages" link as illustrated in the screen shot below.

2 - Add a title for your page, and insert your page content

3 - Publishing your page is all you need to do once you have your page content added into the editor. Before you click publish you want to decide whether you want to include your page in the menu or if you want to hide it from the menu. Sometimes you will want to create pages that do not belong in the menu. For example, a page that you create specifically for a Pay-per-click ad, or Article. This page may not be one that you want people to be able to browse to. To include the page in your menu, check the "include this page in user menus" box under the "Exclude Pages" option. To hide it from the menu, un-check this box.

Comments: We suggest that you do not allow comments on pages as they can get in the way of your promotions and take attention away from your content.

I am really confused and I apologize. Is the WA Blog you are talking about the one I post on in WA Spaces or am I TOTALLY missing a resource?

thx for doing this tutorial ! It is one of these tutorials I intend to come back to over and over. There are so many specifics here, I cannot expect to hold them in my head right now. First I will get my blog set up. I am such a newbie that I still have nothing up and running! Once I have the structure set up, I can actually use this great tutorial to its full advantage. I look forward to doing a second comment here, that says how I am actually using it !
