Increasingly, I am approached by members to give feedback on their website. They ask me to take a look at their website, and to give them practical tips etc. I would like to share my points with you so that you can take a good look at your website before asking for feedback.

You can use this tips to review websites of others, but also to review your own website.

1. Who is your audience?

The first and most essential step is to determine the target audience for whom the website is being built. This may sound logical, but a lot of folks make a mistake, they choose colors and images they like. The pitfall is that people build a website according their own taste and they think the website is "pretty" or "good". However, you are not the target group. It's more important to know what your audience finds 'nice' or 'good'.
I will give a practical example. If you know your audience is formed by young people,
do not choose for a business design, how beautiful that design may be.

My target public for this website are kids of 4-12 and my design looks like this

So take a good look at your website and determine who your target audience is,
and ask yourself: "Does my theme and look fit my target?"

2. Purpose of your website

That is the second question you have to ask yourself; "What is the purpose of the website? Why do I make this website?"
There is no such thing as having a website to just have a website.
There may be several reasons why you develop this website . Some examples of goals for a website are:

to inform people
to sell something
to activate somebody to something
for amusement
to inspire people
to build a community
to teach something
to move people
and so on...

Once the goal of the website is known, you can start building the website.
During the website construction, the target group and the purpose of the website should be a central focus.
That's the only way you will know that you build a website that your target audience would like to visit.

How does your website look? And ask yourself: "Is this the website my audience would visit?
