To request comments you need to have credits available. You can either use credits you have earned from offering comments, buying credits or from the credits you receive from referring a new WA member.I will point out at this point, that I often see questions in the live chat about being able to use this on websites that are not hosted at WA, to make use of the Site Comments platform - you need to have a website hosted here. Otherwise your content will not appear in the list.

Step One - Choose the Website you want the comments on.

Step Two - Choose the Post/Page you want the comments added to.

Step Three - Choose the category, this is an important step. It needs to be relevant, because it is tied to the interests of the people offering comments.

Step Four - Choose what kind of feedback you are after:

  • Questions on the topic or overall article
  • Discussion about the topic
  • Offer Experience with the topic
  • Offer an opinion on the topic

Step Five - Choose how many comments you would

Step Six - If you select more than one comment, you will be asked over what time period would you like the comments

  • Immediately
  • Evenly over 7 days
  • Evenly over 14 days
  • Evenly over 30 days
  • Evenly over 90 days

Step Seven - Click Preview and then if you are happy click 'Submit'.

Approving Comments

Once you have submitted your comment request, you will be notified that someone has offered you a comment in a couple of ways. Your website menu item on the left will change to include a red circle with a number.

You will also receive an email, and it will also show up in your notifications tab. When you go back to your Site Comments dashboard you will find a comment sitting in your pending approval tab. There are four options I can choose from.

Approve and Reply - Post it to your website, but you add your own reply first. this will open up a text box where you can add your reply.

Approve - Just post it onto your website (not really recommended - you are much better thanking the person for taking the time and add your own thoughts too)

Disapprove - Use this option, if the comment isn't relevant, off topic or just repeats what you said in your content. You will receive a replacement comment in this case. (we will discuss this more in the section to avoid the rejected button).

If you choose this option, you will be presented with a text box to explain why you are disapproving the comment. This will hopefully help them understand it to do better next time.

Edit - Why would you edit the comment. This is your website, so you want it to look good. I would never advise you change the meaning of the comment. But editing it for spelling mistakes and breaking up the paragraphs is fine.

Read the comment and choose the appropriate option.

Let's move onto Offering Comments, by making sure you have got your interests set up correctly...

Good stuff, John!

I've been involved in several discussions recently about Site Comments. It's obvious that some members haven't read the guidelines and do many of the things you point out they shouldn't!

It's frustrating for the site owner as no one wants to disapprove a comment, and also for the commenter who gets rejected.

Maybe there should be a quiz you have to take before you're allowed to comment :-)

Let's hope those who need to read this do :-)

Here's another tip some website owners might find useful: Ian

thanks for your input Ian. I think, at times we need to take out the emotion - if the comment is not right, disapprove it.
they need to understand that the comment wasn't right. but we need to educate them by adding value when stating why we didn't approve it.
A quiz, would be hard to validate who can add comments. but I get your point, some people (in my opinion) are chasing the cash credits and rushing through the platform and not thinking about it.
Also, thanks for adding the stagger comments training, would be useful for people looking to stagger them.
thanks

You're right about the emotion. I've seen some members blog about disapproving a commnet, almost with tears in their eyes. There's such support and general positivity at WA that I easily understand how this is difficult.

But I also agree that poor comments should be rejected without remorse :-)

Some people may be chasing the $ but I think some others just haven't read or understood what's required. Education is the way, so let's hope your training is widely read! :-)

I hope it helps too. reading the article is key to giving good comments. I know it is easy to get emotive, but if we all work together there will be no need to reject comments.
