OK. Now let's see ...

The editor menu

The menu bar at the top has 11 standard menu items:

1. back

The "back" button will take you back to either the edit all posts or pages page depending on which you are currently editing.

2. add block

The "add block" option is where you will find the Gutenberg’s Blocks and embeds. You can use the search bar or you can scroll through the options available on the screen.

3. undo

The good old "undo" button to undo the last action you made

4. redo

And the life-saver "redo" button to redo your last undo

5. content structure

The content structure option basically gives you a quick overview of the content in your
post/page, including the word count, the number of headings, paragraphs and the number
of blocks.

Also, you'll be able to see a so-called document outline, which is handy for seeing the way your post/page is structured.

6. block navigation

A handy button that will allow you to quickly and easily navigate between the existing blocks already inserted in your post/page.

7. save draft

A useful link that allows you to save the current version of your draft.

8. preview

It's very straightforward I guess. The "preview" button will show you what your post/ page will look like on the front end.

9. publish

Another button that doesn't need too many explanations. However ... hitting the "publish" button will make your post/page available to the public.

10. settings

It's a toggle wheel used to display/hide the right-side settings menu.

OFF

ON

11. more tools & options

Clicking those three vertical dots, will allow you to display a new "More Tools & Options" menu:

11.1 unified toolbar = allows you to access all block and document tools in a single place

11.2 spotlight mode = allows you to focus on one block at a time

11.3 fullscreen mode = allows you to remove unnecessary menu items

You can also switch between the Visual Editor and Code Editor from the Editor section.

Additionally, in the tools section, you can manage all your reusable blocks, you can configure your keyboard shortcuts and you can copy all your content.

Very thorough thanks for the glossary pages. I've noticed that the images I created in SiteContent do not transfer over if I want to use one of the images as my featured image. I would have to go to WordPress and reload the image there and it's a pain. I thought it used to.

Should I continue to use SiteContent or just go straight to Gutenberg for my blogging?

Hi smartketeer. I like the new and the many available options that the Gutenberg editor will provide. I especially like the ability to embed a video, which is something I would like to do with my webpage. Since my site deals with learning to play flute, I thought it would be most appropriate for me to have an actual video of me play flute. My reserves are that I am just beginning to feel comfortable with the current Wordpress program and not sure I will be able to manipulate all the new features offered by Gutenberg. Can I try the newer program out and if I don't feel comfortable, can I switch back to my current Word Press program/version? Many thanks for the updates. I will give Gutenberg a try and see what happens. I'm sure I will have nay questions upon implementation. Many thanks again for the head's up!

We are talking about a major Wordpress upgrade here. Which isn't optional. Literally speaking you can choose to not upgrade your Wordpress, but isn't recommended!

And as I pointed out in the tutorial, you can still use the old classic editor if you want.

I'm having the same issue, however, I used it in a widget form and allow Adsense to put the ads where ever they see fit. I would love to have the ads as part of my posts but I haven't found a way to put that HTML code. I don't like ads in my post but for right now it's going to be there until I find a way. Good luck hope you figure it out before me and do a training for us. XD

Thanks! I will wait. I had to download a plugin and from there it was getting a little complicated. Is this how you did it.?

I was thinking of 'Install Gutenberg' as that's first visual in our Dashboard but had not ventured into it further and here you are with the tutorial.

Thanks for taking your time to keep your fellow members updated.

Will it annoy other plugins?

You don't need TinyMCE if you are using Gutenberg ...
