So ... What's the point?
It's main goal is to to make building a WordPress blog or website even more approachable to non-coders.
The so-called Gutenberg’s Blocks will allow you to create cool layouts and eye-catchy posts or pages without needing to install a bunch of extra plugins or special shortcodes.
In other words, you'll have to build your posts and pages using blocks. In plain English: the Gutenberg’s Blocks will allow you to add paragraph text, images, video, buttons, widgets and even pullquotes, drop caps, stylized headers, tables, responsive columns, functional buttons, media files, code segments, lists, etc.
And my favorite part: once you've created a stylized content block, you can save it as a reusable block!
Also, according to the developers, because of the way they are coded in the Wordpress database, these magic content blocks should work well with many themes!
And there is more! This first Gutenberg release is just first stage of a bigger project. Later the developers will create new page templates, and the final goal is to transform it into fully featured free visual site builder.
Now, at this point a final question arises ...
How worried should you be?
Well, I won't lie ... Every time when I hear the term "major upgrade", I tend to become a bit nervous ...
And no doubt, Gutenberg will represent a big change for MANY people. But we have no choice ... If we wan't to leverage this promising editor, we'll have to embrace the changes.
And that’s why it’s a great idea to play with it before the official release ...
OK. Enough with the chit-chat ...
Let's give Gutenberg a test drive!
Should I continue to use SiteContent or just go straight to Gutenberg for my blogging?
