One of the very first things you should do both when you update existing content AND when you publish new content is to go to your search console and fetch your latest post as google.
Doing this nudges the Google spiders and lets them know there is new content on your page to go and index.
Just go to your Google Search Console, go to crawl, then click fetch as google. You'll enter the url of the post you want to index and you're pretty much done.
The default setting is set to "desktop". Don't forget to do this also under the "mobile" setting as well. This let's Google know to not only send off the desktop spiders, but to send out the mobile spiders as well so your new content is indexed in both search results.
