Setup and Fundamentals
Prior to getting to the really succulent stuff, it’s necessary to first cover the fundamentals.
Though some of the basics may seem apparent, it’d be incredible to know how often the same cheap mistakes are made again and again.
Affirm and Verify Your Google My Business
The maiden step is finding out whether you currently have a Google My Business (GMB) or not. This is vital because plagiarized listings can happen and could be misleading for those involved. However, if you can’t figure out you ever created a GMB listing, an awesome customer may have possibly done that for you, or a rascal colleague being extremely coherent.
To find out, do a quick business search on Google (and also do the same in Google Maps) and get knowing whether a profile popup exists for your business. If that’s found, you’ll only need to affirm it as your own business. But if not found, you’ll simply have to set up a new one.
Once completed, do the verification right away – verify that you’re the owner of the business, and then Google will deliver a postcard containing a secret code to your chosen business address. That’s the code you’ll need to enter to verify your business ownership.
I have a local website and implemented this today. It was quite useful. There is a whole new section called "website" which gives users a free ".business.site" website. I will see how useful this is in the SERP's.
I was helping a friend do the same, she has a .com website in this niche and we both setup a ".business.site" to link to our back office online stores, hopefully we can get both of hers on page 1 of Google
Another excellent tutorial related to Google My Business especially for local businesses looking to attract customers.
