Configuring Email Applications
So you've created your email account and you know how to access it via the webmail interface. That's great but it can be a bit cumbersome to have to log into a web interface, especially when using a small device such as a tablet or phone. What about using "real" email programs like Outlook or Apple Mail on computers and mobile devices? No problem, you can do that too! I have my email accounts setup on my iPad, iPhone and computer so I can access them whenever I want. To setup your mail program simply follow the steps outlined below:
- Log into your account on the WA platform.
- Navigate to Websites > Site Manager (you can also select Site Domains, Site Feedback or Site Support).
- Click on Site Email from the options at the top of the page that loads. You can also get here and skip the above steps by following this link: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/email
- Find the email account you want to access and click on the SMTP Settings button to reveal the settings you'll need to use in your email program of choice. Please note the information for the Incoming Mail Settings differs from the Outgoing Mail Settings (such as hostname, username and password) so take note of all of it.
- Now that you're armed with the information you need, launch your mail program of choice and fill out the various fields using the information you gathered in step 4. In most cases, you'll need to click on more options, advanced settings or whatever your particular program calls it in order to fill out all of the information for both incoming and outgoing settings.
Congratulations, you should now be able to send and receive messages for your email account using your mail program!
Once you have all of the information entered try to check your email to make sure you can receive messages properly. Also test your ability to send email with that account. Should either test fail, double-check your settings. If you are sure the settings are correct, it may just be the port being used as some internet providers block various ports for security reasons. If that is the case, try the following port numbers in your email settings:
Incoming Port: 143 - no SSL
Outgoing Port: 587 - no SSL
These settings work for my on my iPhone and iPad.
