Advantages of Using Your Personal Name as Your Brand Name

  • Your domain name is part of your business identity and you will be known and referred to by it. Your products and services will also be recognized with the name. Having your domain name is very important and even if you are yet to launch your website, registering your domain name will help you secure your naming rights. Anytime someone else seeks to register the same domain name, it will be indicated that it’s already been taken
  • With your domain name, locating you online becomes a very simple task as it will only be a matter of entering yourname.com. This will make really easy to locate you as all they need to do is remember your name. It will also look great on your business card or wherever you will be indicating your website
  • Having your name as your domain name will also project you as a serious and credible business person worthy of doing business with. Your business will be projected the same as most big and established companies, and you will find more people willing to transact with you
  • On your email too, you can have many components of your business attached to your domain name; for example; marketing@wealthyaffiliate.com, customercare@wealthyaffiliate.com, delivery@wealthyaffiliate.com. This will help you easily maintain professional communication with your customers
  • Using your personal name as your domain name increases confidence in your business and most people will prefer and love it that the person behind the brand lends his name to the website
  • If you are a professional, using your name as your brand is not a bad idea because it is much easier to attract customers to your business that bears your name. There are several authors, freelancers, designers, and digital marketers that prefer to use their names to showcase their business
  • You can have your domain name associated with your business for as long as you run the business. No one else can use your domain name unless you sell it to them
  • Having a personal domain name also positions your website favorably for SEO ranking especially with search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo
  • Another advantage is that there will always be the opportunity to acquire multiple domains with different suffixes like .org, .net, .co.

Lately I have in mind to put for my wife her first and last name in the domain of her site. Thank you Israel for clarifying the pros and cons.

I have a domain with my name but am not using it at the moment, maybe later. Food for thought.

Of course, you should keep that personalized domain name and start using it some other time. Thanks for your lovely comment, Lily!

Great post Israel. For me using my name as a brand has enabled me to get far more exposure, as near enough everything I do online, (emails, posts, comments and sites) will have my name in some form or another. It's also free publicity.
