2 - Google vs. Yahoo

If you know a bit of Yahoo history, then you're already aware that its search engine has been powered by Bing since 2011. Although they are both separate entities, there are a lot of similarities between both of them.

But that doesn't mean they work the same way because there are other areas where there is a wide difference.

However, for Google and Yahoo, we begin this segment by looking at how they both view the age of a domain. Yahoo seems to take the domain age very seriously and this affects how websites are ranked on its search engine.

Yahoo tends to equate the age of a domain to how authentic it is. So, it is safe to assume that the older a domain is the more authentic it is according to Yahoo.

So, you will find that it takes quite a while before newer websites are ranked in Yahoo. But with Google, the main emphasis is on the quality and relevance of your page contents to its users.

The same manner in which Bing accords preference to the targeted keyword is the way Yahoo does too. That's one area where there is a clear similarity with both search engines.

Keywords may be important for search queries, but Google places more emphasis on context and meaning of contents. So, rather than focus on targeted keywords, Google tries to understand the relationship between keywords in the content.

Another thing both Bing and Yahoo share in common is their preference for Meta keywords. But I've mentioned earlier that Google doesn't share the same preference when it comes to Meta keywords.

If you're able to optimize your website for Bing, then you're likely to do very well on Yahoo also.

Thank you for this insight,

Every time I think of how Google has positioned it self with quality. My honest heart desire is that I need to position my self and my business with quality content.

This is the only metrics that will not change and will stand the test of time

Wow, what a wonderful goal, Ayodeji! I could remember the period 1996-1998 when I created my first Gmail! Google was just coming up gradually, though hadn't yet taken over the ranking of sites in full prior to 1998 that it actually did. No one (including Sergey Brin, Larry Page) ever knew that Google would go this far by 2020, but actually saw it happen as a result of dishing out quality at all times. So, you are good to go with your goal.

I knew that Bing and Yahoo were hand in hand, so to speak, but I didn't know the differences you brought out.

Personally I use Google OR Duck Duck Go.
