Delete just one of the sizes shown right above scale. they will both dissappear

Replace one of the numbers.

In my case I want the picture to be half the size so I entered 543 (one half of the original 1086)

The other side will populate automatically to retain aspect ratio

Click SCALE. Scale Image will close.

Look to the right under the image description and CLICK UPDATE or all you have done is in vain!

Notice the dimensions change after you update, you can follow the directions again from opening scale to make the picture even smaller or return it to it's original size.

To resize a picture on an image to image basis (leaving main image as original size), there is another way to do this. Make changes straight into WP Text editor, and change the width and height attributes making sure you maintain the ratio.

i.e. you have an image and want to halve its size.
Locate the <img />

and change -> width: 400; height: 150;
to -> width: 200; height: 75;

You can keep changing until its right for you! Just thought I'd chip in.

Thanks for the info Rob, it is great and works well. I wrote this mostly for codeaphobics. I have overcome this affliction, but many have not and all those funny symbols are scary to them. If you know where to look, the way you suggest is much simpler and definitely faster! I think most will get there eventually, but for now I am trying to cater to how I felt when I first started. Please do not hold back though. Many a bit more advanced people can learn from your answer!
