Why Does Long-Form Content Work?
I used to be skeptical as far as long-form content is concerned. My normal piece of the content was around 1,000+ words or fewer. I focused more on SEO, including optimizing my keywords.
The only issue with this technique is that I was getting a lot of search traffic, but a lot of my visitors don’t translate to return traffic, direct traffic, or brand searches, and my user engagement statistics – metrics like bounce rate and time on site was so low.
So I changed my tactics a bit and started making my content longer and more detailed. The objective was to boost my user engagement – and it worked more than I expected.
The truth is before now, long reads usually included articles of 1,200-2,000 words. However, recently these standards have changed - nowadays, publications of 3,000-4,000 words are not uncommon. This is much more than the traditional 350-600 word short notes that many are accustomed to.
