Why Does Long-Form Content Work?

I used to be skeptical as far as long-form content is concerned. My normal piece of the content was around 1,000+ words or fewer. I focused more on SEO, including optimizing my keywords.

The only issue with this technique is that I was getting a lot of search traffic, but a lot of my visitors don’t translate to return traffic, direct traffic, or brand searches, and my user engagement statistics – metrics like bounce rate and time on site was so low.

So I changed my tactics a bit and started making my content longer and more detailed. The objective was to boost my user engagement – and it worked more than I expected.

The truth is before now, long reads usually included articles of 1,200-2,000 words. However, recently these standards have changed - nowadays, publications of 3,000-4,000 words are not uncommon. This is much more than the traditional 350-600 word short notes that many are accustomed to.

It is a great idea to combine and rework older posts into a new updated post and then link back to the original posts.

Thanks

Hiya! Love this post and it’s definitely given me some ideas - THANK YOU. I have a question though and that is if you are combining several older posts into one, won’t this create duplicate content?

I would make some changes to the post where you combine older content, and perhaps even cite the older article (with an internal link)...

This way you are creating new content, adding to the SEO angle and updating readers on what the current state of the subject might be...and you will not get dinged for duplicate content...

Cheers!
