Additional Notes

  • When using the Visual editor to create a pretty link, you will not be able to create a group or add the new pretty link to a group. To do that you will have to go into your list of pretty links and “Edit” the pretty link to add it to a group.
  • I found that It’s easier to use the Target URL since you can get that when you highlight the anchor text during the beginning process. In this case, I used my existing pretty link since I had my handy, dandy pretty link spreadsheet easily available.
  • If you search by the title or the Target URL after you input your selected search method, a list of existing previously created pretty links will come up for you to choose which one you want for that anchor text.
  • Click on the blue button “Insert Existing Pretty Link.” You will see a little bar working to insert the new pretty link!
  • To check to see if the anchor link changed to reflect the existing pretty link, click anywhere in the anchor text and the URL will appear this time showing the existing pretty link as it was updated.
  • You can check your list of pretty links to see the new pretty links that you added and to create or add the groups.
  • If you prefer to use the pretty link plugin to create your pretty links, it may be a good idea to create a handy desk guide in excel of all your pretty links or keep your pretty links page open so you can check it while you are creating new pretty links.

I found that I could use the WordPress visual editor to create my pretty links and it is so much easier than going back and forth from the pretty links page. Also, since I now understand what the pretty link icon is for and how to use it, I can create my pretty links when I'm initially online writing articles.

I hope you found this tutorial will make your pretty link life a lot easier. I certainly have.

Thank you Larmu. I find creating pretty links in the visual editor is so much easier than going back and forth to the pretty link plugin to get the job done.

The only downfall to this method is that you can't create or assign a group when you do it in the WordPress visual editor. You will still have to go into the pretty link plugin to do that. However, the method does still save time.
