10 Strategies You Can Adopt to Improve SEO

Updating content isn’t a magic trick that will get your site flooded with traffic. So, by updating an old post, you wouldn’t just expect to start getting a quick organic traffic boost immediately.

There are some requirements and your site has to follow the basic SEO best practices as well. Below are the ways you can update your site’s old content.

Diagnose Pages That Have Low Content Quality

Literally, content is a huge contributor to higher rankings, but it’s not the only source of driving blog traffic.

In this case, what you need to do is identify the part of the content that has issues and develop them.

Ensure to Create Content That Won’t Get Stale

Sometimes, you may not be able to keep tabs on your content always. If that’s the case, then it is advisable for you to create content that will always stand the test of time. That is, such content should always look new whenever people read it.

You can make posts about recipes for meals, or posts about how to do a particular thing. Such posts never get stale because they are useful to readers no matter the time of the year.

Use Catchy Headlines

Go over your old posts and see the headlines. This is a very important aspect of your content because this is what will determine whether your article will be worth your readers' time or not.

To do this, you have to ensure that the headline of your article is the type that can grab your readers' attention. When your headline looks and sounds appealing to your readers, then they will open to read your article.

You must not underrate the impact of a catchy headline because it’ll be instrumental in driving traffic to your site. A good thing is a reader can see your post and decide to share it with others on social media. So, content quality matters always.

So, are you saying that after making all the changes you want, you republish, just as if it were new content?

I've done a few updates on content, thanks to the new AIO SEO plugin. The SEO ratings this plugin gives are most helpful. If your SEO rating is too low, these seem to me to be the ones to update.

That plugin has helped me improve my rankings by working to make sure I've made all the changes the plugin recommends.

Thank you, Israel, for reminding me to request indexing after I published my post. I always forgot to do it.

Yeah, there was a time when Google suspended the "Request indexing" feature. Good to know this feature has now been restored fully. Go ahead and request indexing immediately after hitting the Publish button.

Thanks for this Israel. It’s a tough balance between writing new posts and updating old ones. I have been in the process of updating my old posts, and I have seen the rewards. More traffic and higher rankings.
Your tips are great.

Correct, Jenny! It'can be very challenging to balance up between hitting the Publish button for new content and hitting the Update button for old posts. But doing it the right way will pull tons of organic traffic. Google loves it, I bet!
