Now that you have more knowledge on how to find new items at wholesale prices that will allow you to turn a bigger profit, let me talk briefly about other areas to find product to sell on eBay.
GARAGE SALES, THRIFT STORES & CRAIGSLIST
Though you will tend to make more sales selling new items on eBay, you can still make some decent money selling certain kinds of used items too. Items like antiques, old collectibles, used smartphones, (yes, used smartphones sell pretty good), used designer clothing and accessories, decorative items, video games, and select DVD movies.
Those above suggestions are ones that I have had success with but there are several more that I did not mention. Selecting them is something you will have to research on your own. As for finding these items, I have gone to garage sales and have even searched the “For Sale” section of Craigslist.
But when you do buy used items make sure you are knowledgeable in what you are buying, because you don’t want to buy something you cannot resell. Remember to try and buy for as low a price as you can so you can resell at a high enough price to cover your eBay and PayPal fees and still make a profit. Also remember to buy items in the best condition as possible.
PREPARE YOURSELF TO BE A SELLER
What I am going to suggest next is something many people do not even consider when first starting on eBay. If you are joining eBay to become a seller, you should do the following first before selling your first products. Become a Buyer and here is why.
- When you are a buyer and you buy from an established seller, you will get to see the entire selling/buying process from the customer’s point of view. If you were satisfied with the outcome of the transaction, then you will have a good idea of what to do as a seller.
- Another reason why the above is important is for the Positive Feedback you will get from the seller. When people buy on eBay they tend to buy from sellers with higher feedback ratings. If you try to sell on eBay with a zero or a very low number of positive feedbacks, you will have a difficult time making a sale.
- Fortunately by default eBay lumps positive feedback for buyers and sellers together. So building up your positive feedback score from being a buyer will make your seller account look better, because people will see that you have already established a positive feedback score.
SHIPPING
When first starting to sell on eBay I do not recommend you do so by drop shipping because there are several selling factors which you will not have any experience in at the early stages. Being that you will be doing the shipping you will need to determine which shipping method you will use.
I personally use the US Postal Service (USPS) because they provide free shipping boxes when shipping items via Priority Mail. Plus eBay has a deal with USPS and will offer shipping discounts when you purchase the shipping label through eBay. What helps aid me in the process is having a shipping scale to weigh my parcels.
