Hiking Tips For Beginners - A Keyword Search Example

Let’s look at an example. Say my niche site is about hiking and I want to write a post to give my readers some tips about heading out for that first hike. The first thing I will do is head over to my keyword search tool and start typing in some ideas that make grammatical sense. I might try all of the following just to see what looks best:
  • hiking tips for beginners
  • tips for beginner hikers
  • what can I expect on my first hike
  • things I should know for before hiking
  • how to prep for a hike

So, I ran a search for that first keyword [hiking tips for beginners] and here’s what I got:

The most important columns to focus on are: Searches (Avg), Traffic, and Competition (QSR). Let’s analyze the results above for hiking tips for beginners.

  • Searches or Avg (139): This means that there are 139 searches conducted on google for the keyword hiking tips for beginnersper month.
  • Traffic (24): This is the number of clicks you are likely to get on your content per month if you are ranked on the first page of search engine search results.
  • Competition or QSR (119): This is the number of other websites that are using this keyword. Competition is sometimes seen as QSR which stands for Quoted Search Results.
