How to Search for Help

You will find the “search for help here…” function at the top of the Wealthy Affiliate Dashboard. To the left of the Airplane.

Example

Let’s say I want to know something about “keyword research”. The first instinct is to ask the question to the community and wait for an answer, but it is easier to do a quick search first.

There are many different ways you can ask a question and every time the search results will be different. Start your search by keeping it simple. If you don’t find the answer, then expand on your question.

Below is a list of 5 different examples of search terms for my topic. I will only use the first search term in my example.

  1. keyword research
  2. how to do keyword research
  3. what is keyword research
  4. the best way to do keyword research
  5. keyword research for beginners

I have typed “keyword research” into the Search bar. Now I can pick a few and start reading. This way you will find your answer and if not, use another search term.

I recommend you Bookmark your favorite selections, otherwise, you have to repeat the search every time. I discuss Bookmarks in Lesson 5.

Stop Here and Practice

I recommend you first practice the above mentioned before you continue.

Interesting Facts About the Search Function

There are a few things you need to know about the Search function.

Fact 1: The Results per Search are Limited

You will only get +-20 results per search. There are no “MORE” or “NEXT” buttons to click to get more results for that specific search term. It is possible that you can see a few different results every time you use the same search term a couple of times.

This does not mean that there are only 20 results in total. There could be 100’s and even 1000’s other options that are hidden.

Fact 2: Some Results are Only Accessible to Premium Members

From the results above, you will notice the word “Premium” next to 4 options. This means those 4 results are only accessible to Premium members. If you are a free member you will not have access.

Fact 3: Training, Blogs and Questions Options

My example only shows results for Training created, but it will also give you results from Questions and Blogs. It all depends on what is the most relevant during your search term.

Here is a simple task for you. Type the following search term “what is a comment” into the Search function and see if you can spot all 3 options (Training, Questions and Questions).

Fact 4: Are the Search Results You Select Up to Date and Still Relevant

The search results can be from any year, it is not sorted from new to old. The only way you can see this, is by opening the training, question or blog you have selected and look at the “Last Update” date.

I have opened one of the results called "Keyword Research Done the Quick and Easy Way"

Figure 4

My rule of thumb is the update should not be older than 12 months. This does not mean that the older training, posts and question are not relevant anymore. Most are still very relevant. It is just my personal choice.

Fact 5: Ask Your Question Directly From the Search Results Window

There are many places where you can ask your question if you cannot find your answer. The one place is at the end of the search results window.
