Using Images

Images can be used as a way to break up text or attempt to get a point across. When using images on a mobile website, it's best to limit them. The reason for this is when you include a lot of images in a page of your content, it ends up hurting your analytics and that means you get less traffic when a viewer is reading it on their mobile device.

Usually, mobile phones take time to load heavy images. So if you decide to put images on your site, it's best to use one or two and place them where they are relevant in a contextual sense. Formats for light weight images are those in the .jpeg, .gif, or .png format. Also, in order to avoid zooming, make sure your images are compressed.

One more thing to note is that even though all current devices display images, some users may prefer to browse with the images turned off. So it's recommended to use alternative text for this.

I'm using that plugin and apparently it's not working properly? It worked fine for a day or so but now if you try and navigate through my menu it reverts back to the "not so friendly mobile" version of my site? Any advice?
Thanks!

I just checked my website to see if the plugin was working properly and it's not. There could be a technical issue with the plugin itself. Sometimes plugins can be a little testy. Another plugin you might want to use is WP Mobile Detector. It's gotten pretty good reviews. I'm thinking of using it myself. Lol.

I find that your best solution is to use a "Responsive" theme. These are already optimized for mobile use and convert the site to respond to the device it is being viewed from.

Good information to know if we want to create websites for mobile device and lets face there is a lot of them and they are here to stay. So it would be good to have our site mobile ready.

I totally agree. Many people are on the go during the day and use their smartphones and tablets to search the internet. So it's definitely a good idea for website owners to have their website mobile ready.

Good info.

Most people have a smart phone or ipad... that is, most people except me! So, to see what a website looks like on a cell phne or ipad, I use the following website: mobilephoneemulator.com

I use this website because I make mobile friendly websites for many local businesses and that's the only way for me to see what I've made for them.

Jhoecannon - this is a great tip... I also don't have a smartphone and I have my first local marketing client. Can you tell me what template you use for mobile sites and what you typically charge your local marketing customers? I have a meeting with my client coming up and I'm not sure what to charge. (I've only been doing this 6 months). Thanks!

Good information. Add a few more images to make your points. What about responsive themes?

Thanks. Good point about the responsive themes. I'll keep in mind that point when I edit. I'll try and add more images too. And I'll take images into consideration for my future trainings. Lol
