Measuring your content marketing ROI

In establishing your return on investment from content marketing, you need to establish the cash spent and earnings.

Whichever way you produce your content, whether you do it yourself writing articles, editing articles or all the process is outsourced to freelance writers, there is a cost involved. These costs, with your cost of promoting your content. I mean amount spent on paid promotions, scheduling software and every other tool used in the content production and promotion process. I left out the cost of purchasing or producing images, infographics, and videos. All this cost put together will form your cost of content creation.

The next thing is to ascertain your sales. Some sales could be very clear, they are directly linked with users purchase. A good example is sales from content with a direct call to action to buy a particular product.

But many times the revenue from content is not direct, metrics are evaluating this indirect returns as we will see later.

If you put together the sales return from a particular class of content and ascertain what you have earned, this can be tagged as your revenue.

To calculate your return on investment, subtract your cost of content creation from your total ascertained revenue and divide the result by your cost. The final results multiplied by hundred will give you your return on an investment expressed as a percentage.

Thanks for the tutorial, Ayodeji! Content marketing works if done the right way but most bloggers don't realize this. So they quit faster than they got started.
