Generating a Sitemap for Google, Bing, etc.

If you have not yet generated a sitemap for the search engines, Kyle covers it here:

How to Submit a Sitemap to Bing Webmaster Tools

But, let's take a deeper look at your options ala non-video. If you haven't figured it out yet, I like stuff you can print out and follow along. Videos are great, but can sometimes be hard to pause, execute a step, pause again, execute next step and so on. Some people do better with video, don't get me wrong. But, I like to have the steps. Call me old-school! LOL!

So, in our training, we setup the All-in-One SEO plugin and that is what I'm going to use for this training, of course.

STEP 1: What are We Providing to Google?

Okay, so, per the training, with the AIO (All-in-One) plugin installed, if you login to your website, you'll have the XMLSitemap function turned on. It's a feature you have to turn on after the plugin is installed.

Then, you can click the XML Sitemap option under the AIO menu area as indicated on the left below:

Then, you can click the view your sitemap option to the right (as indicated above) and it will open your XML sitemap in another browser tab:

You will be presented with something like this:

Ewww, that's hard to see the top...., but I wanted you to see the entire first screen. So, here's a closeup of the top part that is circled:

Okay, now, as you can see, we are submitting 591 URLs to Google for indexing.

The URLs are obviously listed below that.

These are the items we are providing Google for indexing. Now, let's take a look at what we can change!

Pj,
If it wouldn't be for google+ I would not rank on the 1st page 7th and 8th down the list!
So what does that mean?

When you're logged into Google, you'll see things a bit differently. Because Google is using that to show you your stuff. It means it is linked, BUT it's not giving you a true estimate of how your pages rank within normal search results for the normal web visitor. You can use a free rank checker such as:
http://smallseotools.com/keyword-position/
This will give you an idea of where your website or a specific page ranks within the search results for specific keywords. Now, your page or site may be way down the list, but as time goes on and depending on backlinks, it will get closer and closer to page 1.

What makes such a big difference on page 4, between submitted and indexed?

Ah, I believe it tracks submissions in total. The most links I have had at any one time.

Does this mean you have removed so many?
