We are going to use a handy plugin called Media File Renamer Auto.

Here it is:

It's a really small plugin (73 KB), but let's see the usual speed tests ...

Ok just tried it out and after "auto" changing about 20/30 went to look back at them and they had all gone back to auto and no green tick, also to change the file it says pro version only, what am I missing

You are trying to use the rename meta tab in the post editor. That's a PRO only feature, that's why I haven't included it in the tutorial. You need to use the Posts => All Posts list view as I showed in the tutorial.
