Different types of hoaxes are issued every day on the Internet. Some of them become successful, others don't. Most claim authority such as confirmed by Googe, Facebook or Microsoft!

Here are some of the most common types

Email Virus Warnings

These are created almost every day, warning you about this or that new virus. Typically it tells you not to open an email and that there is no antivirus for it yet. Most cases it claims that your data will be erased, your data locked or your information including your banking accounts will be stolen.

Social Media Virus Warnings

Also very common, they warn you about virus spreading on the social media by videos or links, warning you from clicking them again claiming for loss or data, access to personal information and then worst of all, loss of access to your social media account.

Social Media Person Warnings

Warnings on social media about certain malicious person, who will either take over your account and post indecent or dangerous content, or is a criminal or paedophile.

Social Media Hoax competitions

These are extremely common. Someone creates a page with almost no information, just a give away for a car or a luxury holiday asking for shares and likes in return of participating in the draw.

Other Social Media Hoaxes

There are endlesss cases of other types of social media hoaxes. Such as warnings about you participating in a campaign such as changing your profile picture to a certain animal or cartoon hero, because this gives information to paedophiles.

Telephone and Email Warnings

These are getting less common now a days, but still exist. They warn you against people calling you and trying to gain access to your PC or letters trying to scam your money.

Urban Legends

Why do I add this to the list? Well, there are stories that make their rounds on the Internet every few years, warning you about clowns, house jacking, paedophiles and everything else you can think off.

There are plenty of others out there, but these are the most common on the Internet.

Sometimes if words are misspelled or in jumbled quasi foreign language, its a giveaway that the message is a hoax!
