So you realise you actually want to fix your mistakes of spreading misinformation as the last thing you want to happen is for someone get hurt.

So you asked yourself a question: 'Do I really want to be part of hurting others?'

and the answer was NO. So how do you correct your mistake:

  1. Apologise - Yes, you can do this. Write an update why you thought it was real and ask others to stop spreading it
  2. Delete - If you are embarrassed to publicly admit your mistake, just deleting it might do. Especially effective if you wrote a blog or social media post about it.
  3. Issue a warning about the hoax - Yup, tell others in a blog or a social media share it was a hoax and ask people to stop spreading this misinformation. There are people who make a living with warning others about hoaxes. Very lucrative blogging business!
  4. Check for Likes, Comments and Shares - If others shared or commented, inform them personally it was not true. Write a comment on share and re-shares on all the levels.
  5. Monitor- sometimes people panic and will continue to share information endlessly especially on social media. Contact them personally.
  6. Inform - Tell others WHY it is important not to spread hoaxes and other false information!

Yes, it will take some effort, but to be fair, you were part of causing the chaos, so don't you think you should be part of clearing up the mess too?

Thank you For Your Attention

I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial and it has thought you, why it is important not to spread hoaxes and other false information on the Internet and what to do if you DID forward one of these.

Sometimes if words are misspelled or in jumbled quasi foreign language, its a giveaway that the message is a hoax!
