What Is A Favicon?
A Favicon is an icon that is associated with a particular website. The word Favicon is short for "Favourites Icon" (Favorites Icon). The name is derived from Microsoft Internet Explorer's bookmark list which is called Favourites (Favorites) list. Favicons are supported on all types of browsers.
It may be shown in the address bar or the title of a browser tab, for instance. It is displayed in the address bar of a browser accessing the site or next to the site name in a user's list of bookmarks. If you look at all your bookmarked pages displayed on your toolbar you'll see that they each have a tiny icon displayed next to their website name. So instead of having a WordPress Favicon (icon) associated to your website you can create your own.

How To Create An Favicon?
Firstly, you'll need to design your icon that you would like to use. I use Photoscape, a free photo editing software, to design mine using either simple images or letters. For my British Wildlife Birds site I used two letters with a mirrored affect using similar colours to my website with a transparent background. You could use any photo editing software that you may have or download Photoscape for free, to design your favicon.
