Commenting is a way to build up social markers on your website. Social markers that let the search engines know that your website post is popular and informative.

The more comments you have the better as long as those comments are used correctly and add to the content of the post.

Commenting correctly can help build an online brand or profile.

There are many spammers out there who will target websites to post comments that have links back to their affiliate products or websites.

These spamming posts can cause problems with the search engines and can get your website shelved if not taken care of.

We will discuss the ways to write better comments and counteract spam to protect your site through this training so continue reading.

Hi Mark, very important post I think. I am a relative newbie at the online marketing game and didn't realize the importance of comments and backlinking from them at all. When leaving a comment in the future I will put that little bit more effort in. Also great tip about using different profiles for different niches etc. Really good stuff. Thanks for the tutorial.
Cheers

Darwyn great to hear you learnt something from it.

As a newbie if you get into the habit of leaving relevant comments on your own blog and others it will increase you brand and your popularity among the niches you are in.

Look at it this way if you leave good comments on other websites there is a good chance of gaining a lot of good traffic from them with their readers seeking you out.

Also when you post a comment the owners of those websites will be glad to write comments on yours as they know you will write something to reply that creates a conversation also gaining them traffic.

Then when you post something new you are going to get a good influx of comments fairly quickly. In the bootcamp here you get to see who is reliable for a comment and who is not fairly quickly.

Its a trade off but a good networking technique to build up your profile.

Thanks Mark, I can live with the trade off. You scratch my back I'll scratch yours scenario. It's a great way to optimize with a little help from your friends. I honestly didn't grasp the importance of comments before this at all so thanks again Mark.

I am not familiar with Google Plus and have yet to learn how to use it. Will we be taught that in the training at a later stage?
Could you explain what you mean by Google Plus profile? Is that the Google+ url?

Googleplus is your online profile connected to your gmail account. You can create individual profiles as business pages or your main account. You can always create extra main accounts each with a different gmail account.

I have a Google+ profile but don't know anything about business pages. But I haven't yet found out how to get the url.

Open up Googleplus, hold your mouse over the home icon, a dropdown will appear, choose profile, your url will be in the address bar of your browser, mine is

https://plus.google.com/u/0/+MarkThompson

I have 38k followers and have had almost 1 million views. :)

Hi Mark, I am most thankful for your reply.
My Google+ url looks like this:
https://plus.google.com/u/0/114721825627093918938/about
I did ask about the Google+ url previously when I first created my Google+ account and now realise that I still do not qualify to get a custom url yet.
I created my Google+ account during my first week at WA, so it's more over 30 days old now. But I only have all of 2 followers and that's cos I followed them first. :0
Wow! Even Kyle and Carson combined do not have half as many followers as you. Looks like you would be the best person to consult for Google+.
If you have any tips or advice for me, I would greatly appreciate it (if you could, please PM me).

The number of followers hasn't really equated to extra commissions and sales. I did do a lot of work building up those numbers but haven't really master how to convert them recently. I really need a social VA to help me control the work load involved. :)

Thanks Mark. Should I say welcome back?
You have probably been busy building your biz and a social VA might be worth having.
If applications are still open, I might apply after I manage to master the skills! :)

Hi Mark, thanks for sharing this tutorial.
Lol, glad you did cos all 3 comments for WA reviews which I made today, I was afraid to use my Bootcamp website and used my niche website instead. That clearly shows how confusion can arise from all the recent discussions going on about how to/not to leave comments.

Glad it helped, you can use commenting to improve SEO and create backlinks. If you go for quality every time it will grow steadily and over time provide good rewards.

Yeah- I see some comments that I wonder about - the same ones that really are of little value to either. Some I am sure are genuine- nothing more to add and sincerely thanking someone but others are robotic and meaningless just to show activity.

If you get a comment that is not relevant or helping with SEO you can always edit it to include a few sentences that will. Even ask your self a question to answer back with a new line or point.

Not strictly truthful commenting but if someone doesn't care enough to leave you a workable comment then beef it up a bit. I don't see the harm.

First, I am conflicted about your comments here and earlier about posting comments to your own content (as if from someone else). It feels like cheating or 'gaming the system'.

Is this something I should try to 'get over' as in 'all is fair in love and war', (and business?).

If I can get over it, how do you edit someone else's comment??

just curious, Joseph

Hey I wouldn't go over the top in changing comments but small things like spelling or grammar can be edited without too much trouble.

You can edit any comment on your blog just go into the comments section and hit the edit option, This means you can go through them and add links to new content you have created later on, it could be even content to answer a question one of your comments came up with.

Thanks for this training in an area that I really know nothing about.

Hope it was helpful. There is more to commenting than just putting up mundane replies or thanks to posts.
