STEP 3:

Scroll down the page to the “Nameservers” section.

There will be a drop-down arrow that will allow you to choose between four items how you want to change the nameservers.

1. NameCheap Basic DNS: Use this if you want to point your domain to NameCheap’s default nameservers.

2. NameCheap Web Hosting DNS: Use this if you have a hosting plan with NameCheap and need to point your domain to their hosting nameservers. Will need to use cPanel and other tools for this.

3. Custom DNS: Use this if you are not using NameCheap to host your site and want to point the domain server to a third-party who will host your website. To do this, you will need to have the hosting nameserver information to make the change.

4. NameCheap Premium DNS: This is a paid DNS service. No matter where you purchased your domain, you can use this service with any registered domain. You must have a Premium DNS subscription attached.

To point the DNS to WA, you must select “Custom DNS”.

Be sure to take note of the little green check mark and the red X that is showing to the right of the drop-down selection pop up. You will need it in the next step.

NOTE: The “√” and the “X” symbols are not as large as shown in the images. On the actual page, they are tiny and faint in color. I missed them entirely the first time I did the action.

After you select the “Custom DNS” this section of the page will change as shown below:

These two blank line fields are where you should type in the nameservers of where you want to move your DNS. In this case, you are transferring your DNS from NameCheap to WA.

You’re probably scratching your head wondering, “Where can I find the server name?” Not to worry, I’ve got you covered!

To locate the nameservers for WA go to “Site Domains”. Then scroll down to “Other Domains” to locate the two WA nameservers highlighted in blue.

ns1.mywahosting.com

ns2.mywahosting.com

Enter the WA nameservers on the two blank lines provided for you. There are always two nameservers that you must enter.

After you have finished typing in the WA nameservers, click on the “ADD NAMESERVERS” printed in red.

Remember earlier I told you to make note of the green check mark and the red “x”? Well, now is when you need at least one of them.

Make sure to review the nameserver information you typed in for WA.

If the information has verified correct, click on the green check mark to “Save” the data.

If the data is incorrect, click on the red “X” to cancel the information and then retype the correct information before you can click on the green checkmark to “save”..

After you have saved the WA nameserver information the screen will change again to this image:

And there you have it! You have successfully changed your DNS nameservers from NameCheap to Wealthy Affiliate!

NameCheap usually states it will take 24 to 48 hours for the change to take effect. You could verify with NameCheap if the transition is successful. NameCheap does not send a confirmation email that the change was successful.

I found that the easiest and quickest way to confirm that the action worked is to use NameCheap’s Live Chat to inquire. You need to give them the domain name you pointed to WA.

The domains at WA are more affordable than elsewhere when you add in all of the support you are literally given.

Hi Jerry,

I actually agree with your statement when it comes to the worth of WA. I was just commenting on the actual cost of the domain name.

I haven't purchased a domain name yet from WA, but from feedback from other members of this community, the average costs of a domain name from WA is about $13 and some change. Compared to the costs from NameCheap it's about $2 to $3 more at WA.

In the scheme of things that might not seem a lot to most of us, but it might make a difference to others and that is why I mentioned the cost of the training.

Thanks, Jerry for taking the time to review my training and your feedback.
