Who are your competitors for Page One Google?
Start by going incognito in Google and type in a keyword title that you would like to rank for. Make a list of the top 10 competitors' names on the articles on Google page one. Google other questions from ‘Also Asked.’ You will notice that the same names keep coming up (MMO websites will see Neil Patel, Oberon owned by Shopify, Forbes, etc.)
Now, Google each of these companies and see what information that you can find out about them (type in Who owns….) What you are trying to do is ascertain how big they are and how long they have been around? How many employees do they have? What was their turnover last year? Build a picture of each competitor. don't waste too much time, just work out if you can compete.
Next, you will use tools to find out what keywords they rank for so that you can benefit from their data. You need data to craft a plan of engagement.
You can only get this information by going through each of your competitors' websites, although this can take many hours or even days. There is a quicker way.
As you may know, there are some powerful website analyzer tools that you can use to see what is working and what is not.
Most will cost you to join and get data but a few let you have limited access for free and they are worth checking out. Such as Ahrefs, SemRush, and Neil Patel, to name a few.
You just type in your competition's company website and they will tell all. You can also type in your own website and see how you stack up!
