So ...

After saving your settings, select Users from your admin menu and click the "Edit" button below a username:

You'll be taken to the user editor screen ... Simply scroll down to the Avatar section, and you'll see the "Choose Image" button that will allow you to upload the custom user photo:

And similarly, your users (according to your settings) will be able to upload their own photos by editing their user profile:

And that's it ... A WP User Avatar icon/tool will be added to the default Wordpress visual editor ...

... and your user, guest blogger, etc will be able to easily add a custom photo and a short bio/caption to the end of his/her article:

Here's a live example:

Simple and efficient, isn't it?

And that's it my friends!

Oh, that's great! Thanks for the training Zed. Is there a plugin for guest blogging too?

What do you mean by "plugin for guest blogging"?

I mean instead of assigning the new author a role is there a plugin for it?

Yes, there are many plugins with various functions/features that can facilitate guest blogging. However, assigning a given user role (by the site admin) is always mandatory to give them access and certain rights ... And why would you install an additional plugin if you can solve the "problem" using a default Wordpress feature?
