7- Next action, you can crop or not the image.

8- You can now see your image in the "Site icon" section. Last thing to do is to click on "Save and Publish"

What about Themes that may not support Favicon? May want to include other options setttings>customize, plugin or html alternative options

You can use a favicon regardless of theme. You don't have to use a plugin for it
