Following my recent tutorial about 'how to overcome writer's' block, I was asked by many people about the content calendar mentioned within it. In that context, a content calendar is a great tool for thinking ahead and hence, help with any mental blockages that you may have further down the line. So in this tutorial, I'd like to answer these questions and help you define what a content calendar is, why you should have one, and then, finally, how to create and use and it.
Why do I need a content calendar?
As already mentioned above, a content calendar is a great way to plan ahead and manage your blogging time. Blogging can so easily take over your already busy schedule, what with daily posts, moderating and answering comments, dealing with emails, sharing your posts across various social platforms, managing updates... etc. etc., not to mention actually writing the posts in the first place!
Then there are the times where you just can't think what to write about - also known as writer's block - see my tutorial about writer's block HERE. We all get it and it's certainly not unique to any one person. However, it can be a problem if you hit this brick wall daily - those posts won't write themselves you know! This then leads to demotivation and your website and income generation suffer as a consequence. Sound familiar?
Fortunately, there is a simple answer to this common problem - a content calendar. This handy tool is great for combating writing apathy and makes the most of your more creative days. What's more, it gets you thinking like a magazine editor - which after all, your blog is in a way.
