Next Step - Add an Opt-In Form To Your Site.
In the intro part of this tutorial, I mentioned that you need 2 things to start building a list.
- Email Autoresponder
- Way to control the display of the opt-in box on your site
We've covered the Autoresponder. Now comes the Opt-in Box and a way to control the display of it.
In reality, you could proceed with out #2 above (Way to control the display of the opt-in box on your site). All that you would technically need to do is create a form inside your autoresponder account, and then take the form code that they give you and paste it into a text widget in Wordpress and put it into the side bar of your site. You would then have some sort of opt-in box displaying in the side bar of your site.
The problem with this is that there is no way to really control when the form shows, or what type of form shows. Your options are quite limited.
It's best to use an additional service....which is #2 above. A way to control the display of the opt-in box on your site. This will give you ultimate control over the entire display of your opt-in forms.
I happen to use Thrive Themes, and they have a built in service called Thrive Leads which does this for me. I highly recommend Thrive Themes, however, if you're already using a different theme, then you'll need a different way to control the display of your opt-in forms.
There are a few different options, but one simple one that works really well is SumoMe.
Our very own "Jay from Wealthy Affiliate" uses SumoMe.
He did an excellent training on growing your email list and actually shows you how to setup SumoMe right around minute 44 in this training. I would recommend that you watch the whole thing, as he approaches the list building subject from a slightly different approach than I do.

Just to let you know, Sendlane is specifically geared to email marketing. I'm using it and it is very simple to set up.
