In one of the lessons of the Online Entrepreneur Certification I do remember Kyle briefly touching on the Fetch and Render function of Google Search Console, but I never gave it much importance (nor did I remember applying it to my posts) until @AussieJeff reminded me in one of his messages. So, all the credit to Jeff for this training!!

With this tutorial, I am going to attempt to clarify what Fetch and Rendering functions are in Google Search Console (I still prefer the old name Google Tool Webmaster, but what do you want to do about it!!) and why we should fetch and render our pages and posts regularly.

As I tried to understand what fetching and rendering content entailed, my biggest obstacle was to come to term with the techie language. The more experts and experience of you I hope will forgive my rather simplistic explanations.

Giulia, your tutorial truly enlightened me.
Thank you so much for giving me the tip to check it out.

For only about a month ago I watched a webinar by Jay about how to do SEO in seven steps. There I learned how important it is to fetch on Google, always immediately after having published the post. All this time on WA and I have missed out on this important knowledge. I haven't finished the certificate course yet!!! Mainly because I am hesitating about Adsense and Social Media. Anyhow, Jay, didn't say anything about rendering in that webinar.

Giulia, did I understand you right that whenever I make some changes on an older post, I must fetch and render on Google Search Console?

I do so just to be on the safe side, Pernilla - I fetch my articles, but if I make changes, I then fetch it again.

And yes, don't ask me about the rendering part of the business. I did do some research on WA as to why rendering is not required, but I am not sure I understood the concept.

I am glad I was of help. Jay is right, we should fetch before starting circulating our articles on social media.

I know your reservations about social media. And you know how I approach social media with caution: never reveal personal information which you don't want others to know. Think ahead, is my motto.

With the certification, I had to break so many barriers. Then I went through the Bootcamp (which I have nearly finished, but now I can never find the time to go through that very last bit), and I was asked to start doing videos. Can you imagine??? That was unthinkable by my standards of self-consciousness!!!

And yet, yes, I am posting videos of my Indy, and small training on my YouTube account. This WA has noooo limits as far as I am concerned :)

Thank you for your awesome helpful reply, Giulia!

"Think ahead" is a great motto!

I am working on overcoming my anxioiusness about social media now having started with Facebook. Your advice being cautious and think ahead, I'm going to follow.

I have big difficulties in imagining myself doing Live videos. I can rather imagine myself doing videos with pictures and text. Big challenges for big success - must work on my self-confidence too.

Thanks for this. I never understood what rendering meant before. I do have one question. Doesnt our search map alrrt google to new content or should we still notify google maually? Margaret

I think it's a yes to both options Margaret. My understanding is that the search map does alert to new content to index, but the fetching (and rendering) prompts Googlebot to crawl for errors to enable easier indexing :)

Oh, oh, I'm worried already, lol! Becky :)

Becky, serious, don't worry. It's just one more step to follow after you have published new content. Very easy to implement with Robert's training. And absolutely nothing to worry about :)

I'll take your word for it!

Aside from all that good stuff, (fingers crossed,) :))) how are things going with you?

Not too bad Becky. I'm on sleeping tablets now, prescribed by my GP, and I can finally sleep - yay!!! It's been a gods send, as for the first week in years I have rediscovered I have energy during the day to use for work...and for WA and my websites of course #lol
How about you young Rebecca, how are you faring??

I'm like Picasso, lol! Chiseling away and creating a masterpiece to be proud of. :)

I'm happy you are sleeping better, now back to work it is.

One chisel at a time!

Thanks so much...I've just been fetching - had no idea rendering was important :( Can I go and fetch + render the old posts that have already been fetched to make up for this error?

GiuliaB Premium
I think you can, Soraya. Not only that, but you can fetch or fetch and render again old posts that you may or not have changed.
In passing though, as I try to fetch and render, I keep getting a partial reading - it keeps telling me it's something to do with the coding, which is well beyond my knowledge.
Some say fetching should be enough, others swear you should go for the double function.
