Through the crawling program Googlebot, Google Search Console fetches your website to scan through the content to see if there are known or temporary errors that may slow down accessibility and visibility.

When you select the Fetch & Render options, not only Google Search Console fetches content, but 'renders' it, alerting you and pointing you in the right direction of how to potentially solve problems on your website.

It is deemed that by fetching solely, Google will not scan through scripts or images - in other words will not go through the imagery of your content as your visitors will see it. In order to have a full view, you should also use the Fetch and Render function, which will enable Googlebot to run through the page or post as the viewer sees it, and highlight where the problem lies.

Thanks for this. I never understood what rendering meant before. I do have one question. Doesnt our search map alrrt google to new content or should we still notify google maually? Margaret

I think it's a yes to both options Margaret. My understanding is that the search map does alert to new content to index, but the fetching (and rendering) prompts Googlebot to crawl for errors to enable easier indexing :)

Becky, serious, don't worry. It's just one more step to follow after you have published new content. Very easy to implement with Robert's training. And absolutely nothing to worry about :)

I'll take your word for it!

Aside from all that good stuff, (fingers crossed,) :))) how are things going with you?

Not too bad Becky. I'm on sleeping tablets now, prescribed by my GP, and I can finally sleep - yay!!! It's been a gods send, as for the first week in years I have rediscovered I have energy during the day to use for work...and for WA and my websites of course #lol
How about you young Rebecca, how are you faring??

I'm like Picasso, lol! Chiseling away and creating a masterpiece to be proud of. :)

I'm happy you are sleeping better, now back to work it is.

One chisel at a time!

Thanks so much...I've just been fetching - had no idea rendering was important :( Can I go and fetch + render the old posts that have already been fetched to make up for this error?

I think you can, Soraya. Not only that, but you can fetch or fetch and render again old posts that you may or not have changed.
In passing though, as I try to fetch and render, I keep getting a partial reading - it keeps telling me it's something to do with the coding, which is well beyond my knowledge.
Some say fetching should be enough, others swear you should go for the double function.
