Do yourself a favor and keep your personal profile personal. For one, the personal profile is only allowed up to 5,000 friends, so you can easily get maxed out if you use your personal profile. Personal profiles are also not visible on a Google search. A better bet is to use your personal profile to get familiar with how Facebook works, connect with your friends and family and then launch a fan page for your business.

There was a time when you were able to set up a page, get 1,000 fans and reach those 1,000 people every single time you posted something.
Now, the Facebook "Algorithm" has changed that to the point where they only allow a few drops of people, let's say 100 out of 1,000 people, to see your post on your fan page. It has been long speculated that they did this to force page owners to pay in order to reach the rest of our fans.
This is even happening on people's regular profiles as well. The only difference is, you are still getting organic reach with your personal profile, it's just based on the level of engagement with the content you share with your friends and family and how many people are "interested" in that content.
Like Google, no one really understands "how" or "when" Facebook's algorithms are doing this. Most of the time it's very random...
