Facebook offers free business profiles known as pages, of which followers can become fans. You can create a fan page for a business, product, book, author, speaker, celebrity or just about anything you want. To create a page, from our Facebook home page, click on “Pages” on the left side bar. In fact, I have a training talking about how to set up your fan page……..

Pages function a lot like profiles so you can add links, events, applications, and other features that make them interactive. The big difference Is that instead of sending friend requests like you do with a personal profile, users must become fans of your page by clicking on the like button.

Once a user likes your page, he/she will see your updates their Facebook news feed. Like everything you do online, share great content. Ask questions and respond to any posts added by visitors to your page.

Note: Due to Facebook’s algorithm changes, your page may only reach less than 10% of your total fans because Facebook prefers that you pay for exposure….

Thanks, GeekHibrid, good foundation info. I wonder if you could expand on the algorithm info to take advantage of deeper reach with fans that Fb wants you to pay for. Thanks!

There was a time when you were able to set up a page, get 1,000 fans and reach those 1,000 people every single time you posted something.

Now, the Facebook "Algorithm" has changed that to the point where they only allow a few drops of people, let's say 100 out of 1,000 people, to see your post on your fan page. It has been long speculated that they did this to force page owners to pay in order to reach the rest of our fans.

This is even happening on people's regular profiles as well. The only difference is, you are still getting organic reach with your personal profile, it's just based on the level of engagement with the content you share with your friends and family and how many people are "interested" in that content.

Like Google, no one really understands "how" or "when" Facebook's algorithms are doing this. Most of the time it's very random...
