Step 13: Change the Middle drop down option by selecting drop down: (- traffic from the ISP domain -) change to (- traffic from the IP addresses -) leave the other drop downs as they were. It should now look like this ( Exclude - traffic from the IP addresses - that are equal to)

Step 14: insert your IP address ( number obtained from step 1 and type it in the boxes as the same format presented in google search - just the numbers not the dots) leave the IPv6 box unchecked and then Click SAVE

That's it - You have excluded your IP address, allowing Google's tracking to ignore your visits when making modifications to your website.

Final Point : My Dynamic Address - Will it Change?

Yes - It can from time to time as your ISP (internet service provider) will do this - why? (Just deem this as a security measure).

Your IP address can also change when you unplug your modem but I'm not 100% sure if this is the case with everyone - just check your IP address and see if it has changed.

Questions:

Will I need to update my filters? - Yes. It may be seen as a pain but it's fairly quick once you get the hang of entering your IP address into the boxes.

Do I go Static then? - You can and there are You-tube vids that will show you this. This would mean your Filters would not need constant updating but your level of security leaves you open to possible hacks.

Added Point: If you are connected to an outside IP source other than your own, ie - connected to the Local Coffee Shops Wifi connection, then use the same process and Exclude their IP address. You could name the Filter - ' Exclude Coffee Shop IP '

Great tutorial BlueDot.

I've been setting up IP filters for four of my sites recently. I had originally applied one filter to exclude my IP address at the account level, then included the individual website profiles that I wanted the filter to effect. However, I recently discovered a note within Google Analytics, which recommended creating a second profile for each website, one with filters applied, and one profile without any filters at all. Here is their note:

"We recommend that you maintain one unfiltered profile so that all data is available for your web property. You can configure additional more restrictive profiles as necessary.

To create a new profile, click + New Profile."

So I deleted my over-arching filter from the account, created a second profile for each of my four websites with the description "WebsiteName - Exclude IP", and applied the 'exclude IP' filter to just those profiles, as per Google Analytics recommendation. Now I have two profiles for each website, one profile that tracks everything, and one profile that excludes my IP address from being tracked.

This is recommended by Google Analytics in case there is a problem with the filter, and so you can compare the two profiles for each site.
