Here is an example of a musician's website that is much better:
http://mikeoldfieldofficial.com/
Even though it still looks visually impressive, it satisfies my requirements for a good website:
- Blog post excerpts on the front page.
- Some eye-catching images in the sidebar which advertise his recent albums.
- A clear top menu which links to additional information.
So, straight away I arrive on that website and can get exactly what I want. I can read the latest Mike Oldfields news, I can see his latest albums, I can click the About menu to read about him, I can look at his past discography. It's all there for immediate access without any problems.
The only slight improvement I would make would be to move everything up a bit, but I can see it's like it is because of that image of the cave and sky.
End of training. Get back to work.

The first website, had a minefield of supposedly cool "bells and whistles" at one stage I didn't even know whether I was trying to complete a crossword puzzle accompanied by a menagerie of sounds (like a farmyard) and could find virtually nothing, so guess what?……… I clicked away literally within a few seconds!
The second website was much better, although the header graphic could have had its height reduced by at least a third. At least I could find what I wanted here relatively easily. I also happen to personally like Mike Oldfield's music, especially tubular bells.
Thanks Marcus, "the times" and the designer websites are definitely "a changing!"
