Years ago, around the early 2000s, there was a trend for web designers to make really flashy websites. Quite literally, they started making use of flash animations. So there was kind of this explosion of really fancy websites which showed off the skills of the web designers, but were actually mostly just annoying for the people visiting them.

Image of a bright flashing light bulb to represent the "bright idea" of using flash animations in website design. It also serves to pad out this front page to make it seem longer.

But some web designers are still making the mistake of creating website that are too flashy, especially for famous people...

The first website, had a minefield of supposedly cool "bells and whistles" at one stage I didn't even know whether I was trying to complete a crossword puzzle accompanied by a menagerie of sounds (like a farmyard) and could find virtually nothing, so guess what?……… I clicked away literally within a few seconds!

The second website was much better, although the header graphic could have had its height reduced by at least a third. At least I could find what I wanted here relatively easily. I also happen to personally like Mike Oldfield's music, especially tubular bells.

Thanks Marcus, "the times" and the designer websites are definitely "a changing!"

I bought tubular bells when it came out, I think I still have the LP somewhere,

It was a revelation at the time he did the lot himself, I watched the BBC documentary about it not to long ago.
