Creating a Project Is NOT the Same Thing as Starting Them!
Your ideas are the gold nuggets you happen across as you pan through the waters of contemplation. If you do not take note of them, they will become covered by the sands of life.
Successful entrepreneurs NEVER disregard any thoughts or ideas that come to mind. Thoughts are extremely transient...here today, gone tomorrow. No...Here this instance...gone the next! How can I create a new project without getting involved in it?
Keep Notes!
I usually carry around with me, a little pocket-sized note pad. You can get these for less than a buck at your local Wal-Mart, etc. Have an idea? Jot it down. You will not lose it (unless you lose the book) and the act of reading over these will immediately bring the ideas back to life!
If you have another, perhaps several other projects going...resist the temptation to act on the idea...unless you recognize it to be that million-dollar idea and it must take precedence.
You may think this counterproductive...but depending on your situation, starting new projects when other unfinished ones are hanging on the line out there.
Why You Should Not Start More Than One or Two Projects At A time...
If you are like most people, too many irons in the fire will burn you out!
We all love the sensation of launching a new project. It is an exciting part of being an entrepreneur...albeit, most projects, when delved into very far, have their own share of nitty-gritty work involved...the research, development of the campaign, downright hard-core menial tasks. All projects come with housework - how much, depends on the project.
As you might expect, you will be thinning yourself out too much and in trying to manage all the projects you have going, you get none of them done and wind up with a mess. It's as simple as that. Yet many people bog themselves down doing this.
However, There's Nothing Wrong with Creating Projects for Another Time...
Budding ideas can quickly be lost if not recorded. You can create new projects without even starting them with the pen & paper method. It works on the computer too. In fact, it is good to have the notepad with you. When on the computer, it is easy to fetch Window's Notepad, creating a file especially for passing thoughts when you are at the workstation.
You won't lose the thought if you record it. You will be able to decide a day, week, month later, after having come back to it, whether it is still a noteworthy idea, to pursue it...or drop it. It's far better than having the thought come up, acting upon it right there and then, and days, weeks or months later, decide this half-done project isn't viable.
What to Get Out of This Page: Record Your Ideas! Work with a very small group of projects that you can schedule into the day and promptly get done. Do NOT start a bunch of projects. You will regret it...unless you are a Superman!
Keeping notes brings about the best of both worlds: You can create projects without starting them!
