You can promote your blog in three ways.

You can promote your travel blog most easily through your network. Still, social media, with hundreds of millions of monthly active users, is also well known for targeted advertising, so it can help your content reach the people who are most likely to care about it. The Instagram account of Hand Luggage Only is a great example of a beautiful travel photo diary. You can also promote your content on Pinterest.

  • Being featured in newspapers and magazines is good exposure even for an online entity. The popular blogger Nomadic Matt grew his following this way.
  • Search engines: The largest potential traffic source, but with a lot of competition

You can also get backlinks from prominent travel blogs by writing guest posts. Additionally, collecting email addresses and sending out email newsletters is a great way to increase views, because email offers a direct connection with your subscribers (unlike social networks, which may restrict reach to your existing followers).

Despite recognizing the potential of these tactics, Nomadic Matt went a different way. He wrote guest blog posts for finance blogs about saving money while traveling. In a guest appearance on entrepreneurship podcasts, he discussed how he could build a business from his travel blog.

By using these tactics, he set himself apart from the competition and exposed his website to a large range of audiences.

Very informative, and insightful. Takes off some of the shine often associated with travel blogging. Sounds like the info comes from one who knows....

WOW Jannette, thank you for the breakdown! I pondered the thought of a 'Travel Blog' once or twice. With the information you have provided here, I can seriously consider my options.

My preference would be for a personal expression type blog. Sharing my experiences, knowledge, and creativity.

Explaining the processes and considerations are a big help too. There are some within WA that already have the experience to write tons of content; moreover, you have provided a path to travel.

Appreciate the info,
Canty

Very interesting. I teach ESL in Vietnam and that is my niche, however I am expanding a bit to what people should see while in Vietnam. So this is helpful.
Thanks
Stephen
