Perhaps if you have seen them from the early days of use, you may think they are nothing more than annoying little windows that pop up when you’re visiting one website or another.

They largely were not effective at simulating a real human and often were useless in the early days, little more than a shiny object. They could not answer your questions effectively. Of little use, and another distraction...
