What is branding? What does branding do for you? Why is it important?

Let me ask you a question. What comes to your mind when I say “Golden Arches”? McDonald’s, right? How about “apple”? You get my point.

Apple, Amazon, Google, Yahoo, Bing – all companies that have used images and branding to the utmost advantage. Just saying the name brings a visual to everyone’s mind instantly.

That’s what we want for our web sites – an image that will be, hopefully, forever associated with that site.

One very inexpensive (as in free) way to help accomplish that is to create a featured image with a text overlay that can be used in all of your posts and pages when shared on social media.

Next, I'm going to show you how to create the image, then we'll add it to your page...

Hi DMorrow, First I want to thank you for this lesson, because I didn't know how to do anything of this, but wanted to. I ran into a problem with this. At the end of the lesson, you said to click "Upload Image", but when I did, it said, " Add media files from your computer ", so I did. I chose the file of the image that I created from canva, hit upload, and it loaded, but not in the social settings area. The puppet is still there. What am I doing wrong?

Did you go into the all in one SEO pack, then down to image, then custom image before you clicked on upload image? If you did, your new image should be there. The puppet might still be there too, but you should be able to choose the new one. Also, what shows up there is the text info. The picture shows up when you share the post on Google or pinterest, etc, but not within the post. Let me know if that helps.

I went to the all in one SEO pack, but when I scrolled down, I didn't see image. As I scrolled, I saw, general settings, gonna page settings, keyword settings, title settings custom post type settings, display settings, webmaster verifications, Google settings, noindex settings, advanced settings,, then update options.

I'm gonna send you a screen capture. I will have to do it this evening because I'm at work and can only do limited things right now. I will send it via private message.

I couldn't do it via pm, so I'm attaching the images here! Be sure to update your post before you exit or you will lose the changes. Let me know if this helps you.

I think I see the problem. In your side bar, I see the word "image" but I don't have it in my sidebar. Is that some kind of plugin?

No. It should be there. Can you send me a screen capture of that section where your blank image is and just below it?

Clever idea. Its like a personal banner at the top of the frame. I guess the alt tag would simply be your website name. How will that effect the seo?

Thanks. I don't think it would affect the seo but you might want to check with someone who knows more than I do about that, lol.

Thanks for this Debby but would it get a bit repetitive ???

As just a featured image I don't think so because there are other images within the posts. If you think so you can do a new one for each post that you do.

Thank you Debby, I really liked this. So you keep that same image but change the text depending upon what site you are putting it on?

I only use this image for one site. But I use it for every post and page now because I have my site name layered over it. I will do something different for other sites.
