So now we know what ad blocking extensions are, how they work, and how they may be affecting your site. Now it's time to see what you can do to get your affiliate banners to display despite these extensions.

Unfortunately for us, these ad blocking extensions are very extensive and good at what they do. It seems that if there is anything sourced from an outside domain within your site (AdSense, Amazon widgets, affiliate banners, etc) it is likely to be blocked.

We can’t do much about AdSense or Amazon widgets; however we can manipulate our affiliate banners so they are not considered “advertisements”.

To start let's look a little closer at the wealthy affiliate banner code I used earlier (my personal affiliate code has been replaced with xs):

<a href="http://www.wealthyaffiliate.com?a_aid=xxxxxxxx"><img src="https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/banners/show/wa_starter_350x350.png" border="0" /></a>

The problem here lies with the image source URL:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/banners/show/wa_starter_350x350.png<br>

As you can see the image to be used in this link is being sourced from wealthyaffiliate.com. Anytime these extensions see this it almost always signals "Bad" and will be blocked. Just as I demonstrated in the previous page.

The solution!

Luckily for us, the solution is rather simple. We simply need to upload the image to our own Media Library and replace the image URL with one from our own media library. This can be done in six simple steps:

Step 1 - Our first step is to open up the actual image the banner is using.

1.1 - Copy image URL

1.2 Open a new tab in your browser

1.3 Paste URL into address bar and press enter

Step 2 - Now we need to save the image somewhere to your computer.

2.1 - right click on the image and select "Save Image As..."

2.2 - Save the image to your computer. Make sure you remember where you save it at!

Step 3 - Now we must upload this image to your Media Library. If you need instruction on how to do this you can visit this tutorial: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/janicebowles/blog/how-to-add-images-to-a-wordpress-blog

We will be revisiting this image in a couple of steps.

Step 4 - Now we need to add the original affiliate banner code to a text widget. Again, if you need instruction on how to do this please consult this tutorial by Kyle: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/adding-a-wa-banner-to-a-wordpress-sidebar-widget

Please continue to the next page of this tutorial for the final two steps.

So if I have an Ad blocker on my firefox and I follow these steps, my visitors will still see pop ups from my site? It will not influence my advertising on other peoples computers?

Good question.

Ad Blocker only affects what you see in your browser on your computer. It doesn't affect anyone else's browser in their own computer. It also does not effect anything with your actual website.

For example, if you have ad blocker on your computer you may not even see ads that you have placed on your own website (depending on the settings in your adblocker) but a visitor to your site, who is not running adblock in their browser will see the ads.

Does that help? Let me know!

Yes that sounds good! Just your last sentence you said, if someone does not run ad block they will see my ad. So if they also have ad blocker they will not see my ad even after I changed the URL?

If you follow the steps in this training your banner images should be visible to almost everyone, whether they are using an ad blocker or not.

Thank you! Just trying to help. I don't think a lot of people realize that visitors to their website might not always be seeing what you are expecting them to see.

So if you aren't getting as many clicks on your banners as you thought you would this might be one of the reasons why.
