Plant Bath: this is what plants do to you

A plant bath is derived from the forest bath, a Japanese use where you immerse yourself in the power of nature. Just like a forest pool, you make conscious contact with the surrounding green. Not walking on your own on a path, but at home in your own and familiar environment, surrounded by plants.

According to the Japanese, plant bathing, which is called Shinrin-yoku in Asia, is the recipe for health and happiness. Plants provide more energy, less stress and are good for our resistance and immune system. In addition, it is now known that many indoor plants purify and humidify the air you breathe in a natural way. A few of those green rascals in the house do us a lot of good!

Plant Bath

Back to the bath, because how exactly does this work? Of course, you can fill your bathtub with powerful indoor plants and then sit between them, but the term 'plant bathing' is more a matter of speech. A saying. You can also decorate a corner in the house with lots of greenery, or where you meditate, read or like to relax. This is entirely up to you.

From the head and into the moment

By surrounding yourself with greenery and actively connecting yourself with the power of these houseplants, you will discover that you get more and more out of your head and more at the moment. It is mainly in the leaves, these stimulate your senses: what do you smell, how does it feel? Take the time just like in a meditation or yoga session and experience it with an open mind. You will find that, especially if you do this regularly, your mind relaxes and your energy will increase.

Even if you suffer from a writer's block, a winter dip or if nothing just comes out of your hands: right then, good plant bathing! Because all those plants around us also make us more creative. Ha!

No green in the house? My tip: the Zamioculcas and the Alocasia Colocasia.

Zamioculcas

The Zamioculcas is a cool frog. His leaves do not fall out, he does not grow hard, and is stability itself. Because of its zen appearance this houseplant offers a helpful focus on meditations. The perfect buddy to experience plant bathing!

Alocasia Colocasia

Another 'resting plant' is the Alocasia Colocasia, also called elephant ear. In Asia the elephant ear is also known as 'the great protector'. Its impressively large leaves make the air clean, radiate a lot of rest and are regularly used in tropical areas as umbrella during a downpour. The Alocasia Colocasia creates a calm atmosphere. Inhale, exhale and make

Happy plant bathing!

Luckily for myself I work mostly from my front porch looking into my tropical garden.

Indeed green can give a peaceful mindset

Hey Tommy,
I knew I enjoyed going to the Japanese garden for a reason but I didn't know why. I always felt so relaxed there. Now I know why. Thanks for the blog!!!

Tried and True

Elaine

Hi Elaine,

make sure you have some indoor green at your home also.

Have a great day
Tommy

Love my plants, but I'm a bit of a killer...I have to have healthy strong plants that survive the abuse of too much or not enough. I'm not very good at it...the indoor ones, but outside in the sunshine my garden thrives. This was very interesting...thank you for sharing it!

You're welcome
Tommy

Plants carry a healing light. Without plants, there is no natural supply of oxygen.

Many people underestimate the power of plants because they are caught up in artificial living.

I have plants everywhere in my home as well in my garden, each has a beneficial purpose.

I know that plants are a very good element in the home and that I feel great when I am caring for them and am unhappy when I see that they are having a hard time.

I didn't know this terminology so I learned something new today thanks Tommy.
