Does Bolding Text Help with SEO?
Does bolding text help with SEO?
A question often asked by marketers the world over. I use the technique often in my blog posts and have wondered did it do anything for my SERP's.
Well, Google has posted a video where the question was asked and what do you know their answer was clear as mud.
However, when pushed by the interviewer John Mueller from Google said "yes it does"

On its own bolding text is not going to get your post to the top but combined with other SEO techniques then it should help. So don't forget to add it into your arsenal when adding a new blog post to your websites folks. After all, it came from the horse's mouth.
Here is some training from fellow WA members on the SEO subject.

Appreciate the info! John Mueller's name has been popping up a lot these past few days. So I assume that he must be Google's goto guy.

John Mueller is the Senior Webmaster Trends Analyst at Google and has been there since 2007 so you would expect him to know a thing or two about SEO.
This is good info to know, Mark! I always suspected that it might because of the "attention-grab" factor!

It sure does grab attention as your eye goes to it very easily. When using in-post links to special areas of your website or highlighting and breaking up large amounts of text bolding is a good option.
Thanks for sharing. Very interesting. When it comes from John Mueller himself from Google we know it does matter.
Your statement: "On its own bolding text is not going to get your post to the top but combined with other SEO techniques then it should help." is really great advice.
And WA SEO checklist by Jay is a very helpful reminder. I attached the PDF in case people miss it in Jays video.

Thanks again for sharing.
Yes very interesting. Jay's checklist is a good one but it's for setting up the site from scratch and some of those items I don't agree with like the jetpack plugin. I used to use it but it became buggy and very slow. Maybe it's improved but it was very bulky. I may have to do a new checklist for a blog post. :)
