I Finished It!

My first week on WA I cruised through all the training... Blazed through it even. I was so keen to get started on progressing further every day that my body clock began waking me up at 5am every morning, and I eagerly obliged.
My professional background being in the world of all things digital, I was not struggling with any elements of the training, and was loving the dopamine rush of external validation through checking off boxes on each learning task.
Earning a badge for getting a site indexed was a bit of a highlight, but ultimately it was something I've done a hundred times before, minus any of the fanfare.

What I'm really proud about, is that I just hit 'publish' on my first article. This was the first roadblock I'd come up on in the training, because all of a sudden, after a week of easy wins, I had to go off on my own and really put in the work. I adore writing, but generally only do any when there's an obvious reward at the end of the last sentence... Say for a job application, or a review on a website. So writing wasn't the issue.
It's just that usually at this point of any exciting new scheme I'm caught up in, I'll usually lose steam and give up. I'll find a million excuses for not sitting down to do it. I can't tell you the number of projects I've enthusiastically started, thinking they're going to change my life, only to have them fizzle out when the unglamourous bit starts. Branding and setting up websites, I'd do that all day if it had results! And yet, for the past 2 weeks I have diligently applied myself to this task. I really committed to it. And today, I was able to hit publish on a finished peice of content, that I am immensely proud of. Based on my research, I believe it is the most comprehensive and engaging article on the topic that exists online at the moment. But even more than that, I just cannot believe that I started and finished something on this scale, without any gauranteed reward in sight.

To be perfectly honest, one carrot-on-a-stick that kept me going was the prospect of once again returning to those check boxes, easy wins and external validation in the training modules. The structure of Wealthy Affiliate really is a huge strength, and if this is what it takes to build my Commitment Muscles, then I'm not embarrased to admit it.

This may just be the start of something glorious. If nothing else, I'm going to savour this feeling of triumph and revisit it next time I run out of motivation for something I care about. This is a feeling that will stay with me for life, and is extremely valuable to me, though I haven't even earned a cent yet. Thank you WA.
