St. Valentine beheaded for marrying Christian couples.
Wait...what?! Yep, that's one of the traditions surrounding Feb. 14th. That particular St. Valentine was sentenced to execution in three stages by Emperor Calaudius 2. Beating, stoning, then decapitation. For marrying folks against the Emperor's orders. It seems Claudius felt that men made better soldiers without a wife & family to worry about. So he forbade marriage among soldier-aged folks. And St. Valentine, seeing the injustice of that order, secretly married young people anyway.
So, I guess, if we're gonna associate someone with a holiday that celebrates romantic love, why not pick someone who was willing to put it all on the line for marital love.
But, then, there are several other saintly sorts named Valentine. One of them is even a woman (Valentina). And there are several dates throughout the year these various Valentines have a day on a calendar to celebrate them.
So, I'm thinking, since it's too hard to remember all the days and all the St. Valentines, it might be a good idea to celebrate love everyday. After all, you are loved, you know.
So, let's celebrate Valentines day with our loves.
And let's not lose our head in the process.
Grace, peace and love,
Terry

Hey Terry,
You know if we celebrated the true meaning of this day along with Christmas and Easter and Thanksgiving at least monthly, this might be a bit more peaceful world.
Isn't it the truth, my brother! In other words, to the extent that we see all of life as sacred, not just certain compartments, we will enjoy more grace, peace and love... Thanks my friend.
